Somalia’s PM accused of imposing air blockade on Gedo region amid prolonged dispute

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Authorities in south Somalia’s Gedo region accused Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of imposing an air blockade on the restive region amid prolonged dispute, Caasimada Online news website reported on Monday.

Regional governor Ahmed Bulle Gared said the Somali Premier had ordered the suspension of all flights to the region, leaving hundreds of travelers, including patients seeking medical attention, stranded for more than a week.

Officials and other politicians in the region travel by air due to a land blockade imposed on the most of the region’s main cities by the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab.
