MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on Saturday appointed a ministerial committee to launch probe into an attempted coup he alleged to have been orchestrated by the President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
In an interview with VOA Somali last week, a spokesman for Somali President dismissed the Premier’s claims as groundless, arguing that the Roble was trying to sway public attention from corruption allegations against him.
The decision by the Prime Minister followed a cabinet meeting held on Thursday in which ministers jointly condemned the alleged coup attempt and called for a thorough investigation.
“While implementing the decision of the cabinet, the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia HE Mohamed Hussein Roble has appointed a committee comprising five ministers, who will begin an official investigation into the 27 December attempt to overthrow the offices of the Prime Minister and cabinet,” the office of Somali Premier said in a statement.
