MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble said on Monday an “outrageous” statement from the President and failed military takeover of his office were a violation of the constitution, hours after Farmajo claimed he had suspended him until an investigation into looting of public land is completed.
“The outrageous statement from immediate former President, Mohamed Abdullahi (Farmajo) regarding the work of the PM and his failed attempt to militarily take over the OPM(office of the Prime Minister) is a violation of the constitution and other laws, the consequences of which be solely shouldered by Farmajo,” the office of the Somali PM tweeted on on Monday.
Troops loyal to the Prime Minister bolstered by the African Union peacekeepers were able to regain control of Roble’s office from pro-Farmajo forces, who had seized it hours earlier. Sand barriers have also been laid on all roads leading to the area.
Pictures circulated online showed the Prime Minister, accompanied by his deputy and army chief, returning to his office.
“The Prime Minister is carrying out his constitutionality mandated day-to-day duties as usual, and is fully committed to fulfilling his national responsibility to conduct an acceptable electoral process that culminates in a peaceful transition of power,” his office his said.
