Somalia’s PM meets with US ambassador for talks on efforts to ‘strengthen bilateral relations’

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday received US ambassador Richard H. Riley at his office for talks on strengthening bilateral relations, his office said.  

“During the meeting, Prime Minister Barre reiterated Somalia’s unwavering commitment to upholding its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and expressed firm opposition to the illegal MOU signed between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and a leader of the Somali northern region of Somaliland, which poses a severe threat to the collective stability we seek for the region,” the of Somali Premier said in a statement on X. 

 “Ambassador Riley praised #Somalia’s progress, congratulated them on its election to the UN Security Council for 2025-2026, and assured continued US support in security, aid, and infrastructure development. He also expressed US companies’ interest in investing in Somalia.”
