MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has held virtual meeting with the presidents of regional states and the leaders of an opposition council, his spokesman said on Friday, as tensions continue to heat up over “fraudulent” elections held by some of the Horn of Africa nation’s regions.
Somali PM chaired “virtual meeting via zoom attended by the National Consultative Forum” which focused on “expediting elections and improving electoral procedures”, the Premier’s spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimu tweeted.
The Prime Minister is due to convene a meeting of National Consultative Council soon, he added.
Former presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, and the leader of Wadajir Party Abdirahman Abdishakur – who are all members of an opposition council – were also among attendees at the Zoom meeting.
The opposition earlier boycotted ongoing elections, which it described as a “brazen fraud” and threatened that it would not accepts its results.
