Somalia’s PM Performs Eid Prayers at Presidential Palace Due to Insecurity

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and other government officials have performed Eid prayers on Thursday at a mosque inside the presidential compound in Mogadishu due to fear of militant attacks.

The prime minister and other senior government officials were advised not to attend prayers at the Isbahaysiga mosque in the capital following intelligence reports warning of possible militant attacks on high-profile targets in Mogadishu.

An official at the prime minister’s office, speaking on the condition of anonymity to Somaliguardian on Thursday, said government employees and cabinet members had been cautioned not to participate Eid festivities in crowded areas.

There have been local media reports over the past few days that the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab has smuggled explosives into the capital, a few days after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a gathering of security officials in Wabari police station, where more than 6 people including several senior police commanders were killed.
