Somalia’s PM waives fees imposed on passengers leaving Mogadishu airport

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday ordered Somali civil aviation authorities to waive controversial new fees imposed on passengers departing from Mogadishu airport after the move sparked chaos, state media reported.

The Premier visited the airport hours after videos emerged of hundreds of passengers stranded at the terminals due to a dispute over a $9 fee for processing information of travelers.

Speaking to those impacted by the move, the Premier promised that such an incident will not happen again at the airport.
