MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh on Monday, focusing on bolstering bilateral relations between the two nations, his office said.
The leaders oversaw the signing of key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in governance, security, and urban development.
“This reaffirms the historic ties between Somalia and Libya and their shared commitment to fostering economic growth and sustainable progress,” the statement noted.
The meeting in Libya follows Mohamud’s recent visit to Azerbaijan, where he signed several cooperation agreements with the Azerbaijani government. Analysts suggest these diplomatic efforts are part of a broader strategy orchestrated by Turkey, which seeks to strengthen ties among its allies and expand its influence across strategic geopolitical regions.
Mohamud’s engagement with Dbeibeh, another Turkish ally, underscores Ankara’s growing sway over Somali leadership and its ambition to cultivate a network of partnerships spanning Africa and beyond. The visit highlights Turkey’s role as a pivotal player in shaping regional alliances and fostering multilateral cooperation.
