MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met his Eritrean counterpart Asaias Afwerki in Asmara during his fourth visit to the Horn of Africa nation in two years, state-run news agency SONNA reported on Monday.
The two leaders discussed current crisis in the Horn as Ethiopia and Somaliland threaten to implement a controversial sea access deal, the war against Al-Shabaab which is facing numerous setbacks and Eritrea’s continued support in the training of units of the Somali army.
There have been reports that, plans to deploy Eritrean troops to Somalia to succeed ATMIS and Ethiopian forces may have been part of the discussions, but there have been no confirmation from both Mogadishu and Asmara.
