MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is heading to Doha where he is scheduled to meet with Qatar’s emir on Sunday for talks on key bilateral and regional issues, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Friday.
“HE President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo will arrive on Saturday in Doha on a working visit to the country,” QNA tweeted.
“HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will meet HE the Somali President on Sunday at the Amiri Diwan, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them, in addition to a number of issues of common interest.”
Somalia’s government and the office of the President have not immediately commented on Farmajo’s planned visit to Qatar.
It comes as authorities intend to conclude parliamentary elections by March 15 to prepare for presidential polls in which Qatar’s staunch ally will take on opposition leaders, including some backed by Doha’s arch-rival, the United Arab Emirates.
