Somalia’s spy agency shuts down Hormuud headquarters in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) on Monday shut down the headquarters of Hormuud, the country’s biggest telecommunications company, in the capital Mogadishu.

In a statement, Hormuud said troops loyal to the spy agency stormed its headquarters and disrupted its services to the public, adding that the soldiers had requested it to provide information of its customers using EVC plus, the company’s renowned money transfer service.

NISA issued a statement, claiming that it was investigating members of the company’s employees suspected of having links with terror groups and accused the company of refusing to cooperate with security agencies.

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was on a trip to Dhusamareb, cut short his visit to the central town to resolve the dispute which has been dragging on for the last few months.
