Somalia’s SSC leader says Ethiopia plans to capture Lasanod town

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The leader of northern Somalia’s SSC region Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Ali Firdhiye warned against plans by Ethiopia’s government to deploy troops to take over control of the town of Lasanod and threatened that regional forces will not sit idly by if attacked, Caasimada Online news website reported on Thursday.

It comes amid escalating tensions over Ethiopia’s deal to lease a parcel of land along the Red Sea from the breakaway region of Somaliland in January.

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud earlier accused Ethiopia of attempts to annex parts of the country’s north and warned that such a move would play into the hands of Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda’s strongest and wealthiest affiliate.
