Somalia’s top court deals blow to Fahad Yasin’s bid to join parliament

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a case filed by former spy chief Fahad Yasin against a decision by the electoral body to suspend the results of an election for a parliament seat he had occupied last month.

The court held hearing into the case on Tuesday, a move whose legality was challenged by the Prosecutor-General’s office.

In a statement, the court said it has no jurisdiction over complaints on decisions by the electoral body and ongoing polls, citing clauses in the September 17 2020 agreement between Somali leaders which had been approved by both chambers of parliament.

Fahad Yasin, whose last-ditch attempt to settle dispute over his seat came to no avail, said in a separate statement that he would respect the ruling by the Supreme Court.
