Somaliland Election Official Killed in Lasanod

HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Attackers have killed an election in the east of the breakaway state of Somaliland in northern Somalia, months after municipal and parliamentary polls were held in the region.

Abdullahi Laba-go’le, head of Somaliland electoral commission in Sool region was killed by an identified assassins while he was heading home on Saturday night, local security officials said.

Attackers immediately escaped and security forces rushed to the scene to establish an investigation into the incident.

Several other local officials and members of the judiciary were earlier killed in similar attacks, for which no group claimed responsibility and no one has so far been arrested.

Police officials in the breakaway state promised to bring perpetrators of the attack to justice, saying a manhunt operation for those behind the killing was underway.
