HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Authorities in Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland on Wednesday executed 5 men by firing squad after being convicted of murder.
The execution of the five prisoners held for years in Mandhera Jail near the port city of Berbera occurred in Abdaal village, authorities said in a statement.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi signed the order to execute the 5 prisoners. Similar executions by the break-away region’s authorities drew criticism from human rights activists.
