HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi reacted angrily on Saturday to remarks by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in which he promised not to recognize the break-away region’s independence.

“Hassan Sheikh and a man staying in Hamar (Mogadishu) will not be asked about Somaliland’s quest. We are a sovereign nation for 30 years,” Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi said.

“Your remarks could aggravate enmity and are reckless since we have been living separate for 30 years,” he added.

In a recent speech, Somali President said his government would recognize the independence of Somaliland and would instead make efforts to persuade authorities in the break-away region to reunify with the Federal Republic of Somalia.
