HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi received on Saturday a delegation from the United States led by former Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Tibor Nagy, just days after police killed at least 7 people during “peaceful” protests.
The delegation included former US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Tibor Nagy, former Africom chief William E. Ward, J. Peter Pham and Joshua Meservey, a member of Heritage Foundation.
During the meeting, Bihi elaborated on the achievements by his administration and its predecessors in ensuring that the break-away state remains a beacon of hope in one of the most troubled regions in the world, his office said in a statement.
On Thursday, at least 7 people were killed and more than 100 wounded after police opened fire on opposition protesters demanding timely presidential election. Bihi blamed opposition parties for the deaths and banned demonstrations.
