HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Leader of Somaliland’s Waddani opposition party Abdirahman Abdillahi Irro on Saturday vowed that he would lead an upcoming anti-government march amid a heated dispute over a presidential vote slated for Nov. 13 and urged his supporters to brave gunfire.

A peaceful demonstration is a constitutional right for the public that no one can deny. That march will take place and will be led by me. Let anyone that intends to use gunfire against unarmed demonstrators shoot,” Abdirahman Irro said.

I say to Muse Bihi that he did not rise to power by force and should hold the election, if you win remain in power and if you are defeated, transfer power. There will no be any term extension.”

He blamed the recent resignation of members of the electoral commission on the government.

Last week, Somaliland Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed banned a demonstration planned by opposition parties and instructed authorities in the regions, and police to further tighten security.
