MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland Information Minister Ali Hassan Mohamed said on Sunday that remittances within the region will not adhere to the Somali government’s directive on referencing Somaliland in their websites.
Mohamed criticized the order as a sign of Somali government’s inherent weakness and lack of authority, emphasizing that such directives reflect their diminishing influence. He asserted that issuing these letters is a desperate measure by Somalia’s government, revealing their inability to address the realities on the ground.
The Somali government has recently compelled Ethiopian Airlines and Fly Dubai to remove references to Somaliland from their flight destinations, after Mogadishu said such labels were undermining its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
