Somaliland police deny reports of explosion in capital

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland police on Tuesday denied reports of an explosion in the break-away region’s capital Hargeisa and warned local journalists against spreading fake news amid tensions simmering over recent announcement by opposition leaders that they would no longer recognize president Muse Bihi Abdi.

Police said two people sustained minor injuries when a tyre exploded while they were filling air in it at a workshop in the heart of the city. Security forces said there was no bomb explosion in the city.

Somaliland police threatened it would take action against anyone found spreading misinformation aimed at ruining the break-away region’s reputation as a beacon of peace in the Horn of Africa.
