MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi is expected to visit frontline areas in Sool region as clashes between break-away region’s troops and local forces a seeking a reunification with Somalia renewed in the town of Lasanod on Tuesday.
Bihi arrived in the nearby town of Burao in an undisclosed visit, where he is set to meet local elders in an effort to mediate an end to skirmishes between two rural communities.
The trip comes after gunfight erupted outside Lasanod where residents reported hearing a fierce exchange of gunfire and explosions from artillery shells fired by the separatist region’s troops.
Casualties on both sides have not been immediately known.
