MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has vowed to pursue a resolution to the conflict in the Sool region if he is re-elected in the upcoming presidential election, asserting that the release of Somaliland prisoners of war held in Lasanod will be prioritized after the vote.
When President Bihi was questioned, in a BBC Somali interview, about his strategy to address the conflict, he stated that he would not disclose his plans in the media, adding that there was no need to elaborate since the public is already aware of the situation and emphasizing that his primary focus is on the upcoming election.
In an effort to downplay the severity of the war and its implications for the breakaway region, which has lost significant territory it controlled for over a decade, President Muse Bihi Abdi described the conflict as a minor issue, asserting that such challenges are commonplace around the world, including in the United States.
Amid growing uncertainty regarding his chances in the upcoming election against a united and formidable opposition, President Muse Bihi Abdi exhibited clear signs of anger in his demeanor and voice while addressing questions.
His opposition has capitalized on the Anod conflict, the territory lost by the breakaway region, and the hundreds of Somaliland prisoners of war held in the town to rally support and undermine Bihi’s reputation as a credible candidate for another five-year term.
