MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi on Wednesday vowed to implement a memorandum of understanding with Ethiopia that grants Ethiopia access to a leased land along the Red Sea and threatened that his government would regain control of the airspace amid row with Somalia.

Speaking at a ceremony held in Hargeisa, Bihi also said they will not bow down to pressure from Mogadishu and will proceed with the implementation of the deal signed in January, which drew condemnation the government of Somalia.

Somali President played down threats from a defense cooperation agreement Mogadishu signed with Turkey in an attempt to counter Ethiopian plans to gain access to the sea through the breakaway region in northern Somalia.

Speaking on the killing of a civil aviation official in Mogadishu this week, Bihi blamed Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for the murder and the subsequent arrest of other individuals from the breakaway region.
