Somaliland says won’t sit idly by if attacked in dispute with Puntland

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi said on Tuesday separatist region’s troops will not sit idly by if attacked by forces of neighboring Somali federal member state of Puntland amid escalating tensions in the town of Lasanod.

Bihi said authorities are ready to pay more efforts in resolving tensions in Lasanod and addressing the grievances of its residents, days after more than 10 people were killed in violent protests and dozens more wounded.

The President added that security forces had detained people suspected of carrying out a spate of assassinations against local officials and civilians.
