HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Troops and clan militias loyal to the administration of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn seized control of Goojacade Somaliland army camp, the break-away region’s largest base in the war-hit region.
Videos circulated online showed dozens of military vehicles, tanks and weapons captured by SSC troops after overrunning the base on Friday, marking the most significant blow to the government of President Muse Bihi since the conflict erupted in February.
Authorities in Lasanod said they had captured dozens of soldiers, including the commander of the base Faysal Abdi Botan as prisoners of war.
Dozens of trucks carrying Somaliland troops were seen in a video heading to the frontline areas after the fall of Goojacade base. Bihi’s government has not yet commented on the development.
