MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A suicide bomber attacked a teashop inside the highly guarded Jaalle Siyad Military Academy in Mogadishu on Wednesday, killing an unspecified number of military officers. The attack occurred during a visit by Western military officials.
The al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, stating the bombing was intended to target the visiting Western officials.
Somalia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway. Security has since been tightened in and around the academy, which has been the target of previous attacks in recent years.
Authorities have arrested several military officers suspected of facilitating the bombing. It remains unclear how the attacker—wearing a suicide vest—managed to enter a teashop inside the heavily secured facility during a high-profile visit.
This marks the second such attack at the Jaalle Siyad Military Academy in recent years, raising fresh concerns about insider threats and the effectiveness of internal security protocols.
