Talks between Somalia’s federal, regional leaders enter second day

Somalia federal, regional leaders

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Talks between Somalia’s federal and regional leaders entered the second day on Monday, in which both sides are focusing on efforts to end long-standing tensions over power and resource-sharing mechanisms.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, his Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and the leaders of four regional states are attending the conference. The President of Puntland State Saeed Abdullahi Deni is participating in the meeting via Zoom.

Among the key sticking points are ways to distribute funds between federal member states and share of foreign development aid.

The meeting is scheduled to conclude today and the two sides are expected to issue a communiqué detailing terms of their agreement.
