MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The breakaway region of Somaliland and the semi-autonomous region of Puntland in northern Somalia have been identified as potential relocation sites for nearly two million Palestinians, as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to take over the Gaza Strip, The Jerusalem Post reported on Wednesday.

The news emerges as both regions intensify efforts to gain U.S. support. Somaliland, which has long sought recognition, is reportedly positioning itself to meet potential U.S. demands in exchange for formal recognition by the Trump administration. Similarly, Puntland, at odds with the federal government in Mogadishu, is seeking direct engagement with Washington, bypassing the central authorities in Somalia.

Neither administration has commented publicly on the report or their stance on the proposed displacement of Gaza’s population—a plan that has provoked widespread outrage across the Arab world.

The development follows President Trump’s recent announcement calling for Egypt and Jordan to absorb Gaza’s population, a move he claims would facilitate U.S. control and reconstruction efforts in the Strip. Trump suggested that the displacement of Palestinians could be permanent, describing Gaza as a “demolition site” unsuitable for habitation.
