MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Minister of Interior Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has said Turkey’s Bayraktar TB2 drones are taking part in offensive operations against Al-Shabaab in central Somalia.
In an interview with Universal Somali TV, Fiqi said the US and Turkey are providing air support to prevent Al-Shabaab attacks on Somali security forces as they continue operations to retake rural areas in the central regions of Galgadud and Hiran.
“When it was seen that the Somali people can fight, a number of countries showed support, including the US which carries out an air strike whenever the enemy gathers at one place,” Somali Interior Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi said.
“Turkey has joined [the fight] with air support while other governments are providing intelligence support.”
