ANKARA (Somaliguardian) – Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Önal and US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman discussed key issues including the crisis in Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan, Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

It comes days after reports emerged that the US envoy was planning to pay visits to countries, including Turkey and the UAE to discuss Ethiopia’s conflict, where arms sales by some Middleastern countries are feared to further aggravate the civil war in Africa’s second most populous nation.

The Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs has met with the US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffrey Feltman, it tweeted. “During the meeting regional topics including” Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan “were discussed”, Turkish Foreign Ministry added.

It comes after reports surfaced more recently over Turkey’s armed drone sales to Somali federal government, whose opposition fear the aerial vehicles, weapons and troops returning home from Eritrea could help the incumbent “seize the country by force”.
