MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least 15 people were killed on Wednesday after two car bombs exploded outside camps for security forces in the town of Mahas in central Somalia’s Hiran region.
One of the blasts hit a residence belonging to Somali MP Mohamed Abukar Ja’far and adjacent camp housing troops loyal to him, who had withdrawn from the town of Wabho in Galgadud region after taking its control from Al-Shabaab.
Another car bomb exploded outside the home of Mahas district commissioner. Both officials survived the attacks, but a number of military officials and soldiers were killed.
Al-Shabaab said it had carried out the attack, killing 87 officials and soldiers, and destroying 13 military vehicles. Somali government has not immediately commented on the claim.
