MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian Two former Somali presidents Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo met in the capital Mogadishu on Saturday as part of plans to form a new alliance after opposition split in dramatic feud.
In a statement on Facebook, Sharif said the meeting with Farmajo, who had just returned home hours prior to the talks, resulted in an agreement to continue consultations and invite other opposition leaders to challenge the government’s plans to overhaul the constitution.
Local media reports suggested that the opposition split over plans by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed to invite Farmajo to their meetings. Former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire and Abdirahman Abdishakur strongly opposed the move in an attempt to distance themselves from Farmajo whose government staged attacks on opposition.
