U.S. warns of imminent terror attacks in Somalia, urges caution

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United States has issued an urgent alert about potential terrorist attacks targeting multiple locations in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, with Aden Adde International Airport identified as a prime target.

In a stark statement, the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu confirmed it is “tracking credible information related to potential imminent attacks against multiple locations in Somalia, including Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport.”

The embassy has suspended all movements of its personnel, stating, “All movements of U.S. Embassy Mogadishu personnel have been cancelled until further notice.”

The warning detailed that the attacks could involve car bombs, suicide bombers, individual assaults, and mortar fire, though the threat is not limited to these tactics.

Terrorist groups are actively plotting bombings, kidnappings, and other violent acts across Somalia, posing a grave risk to both locals and foreigners, according to the statement.

The U.S. State Department’s Level 4 travel advisory for Somalia—its highest warning level, urging Americans “do not travel”—remains in place. The advisory stresses that attacks could occur with little to no warning, targeting high-traffic areas such as airports, seaports, government buildings, hotels, restaurants, and shopping districts—locations often frequented by Westerners and large crowds.
