UAE appoints new ambassador to Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United Arab Emirates appointed a new ambassador to Somalia, months after resetting diplomatic relations with the Horn of Africa nation.

In a statement, UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said that Ahmad Juma Al Rumaithi will take over as the Gulf nation’s new ambassador in Somalia. He is replacing Mohamed Ahmed Al Othman.

The United Arab Emirates said the appointment is part of a broader diplomatic shake-up in “friendly countries.”

Following the election of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in May, the UAE and the Somali government agreed to restore diplomatic relations after years of hiatus.
