Uganda denies reports of troops killed in Somalia bombing

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Uganda’s military has denied reports indicating that at least 12 of its peacekeepers were killed in a recent suicide bombing in south Somalia.

Ugandan army spokesman Felix Kulayigye said the reports were baseless and that the peacekeepers were safe after a recent suicide blast had killed the mayor of the town of Marka in a heavily fortified district headquarters manned by African Union troops.

He added that Ugandan troops continued operations aimed at restoring peace in the Lower Shabelle region where the attack took place last week.
