Uganda says will keep troops in Somalia after deadly base attack

Uganda

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Uganda’s army has said it will keep its peacekeepers in Somalia following an attack by the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab that left dozens of soldiers dead last month.

Speaking to VOA Somali, a spokesman for Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) Felix Kulayigye said there were mixed reactions from Ugandans after the recent assault on a base housing African Union peacekeepers in the town of Bula Mareer in south Somalia.

Some of the Ugandans are calling for pullout of troops while others urge retaliatory action, he said, adding that Kampala will keep its troops in Somalia until the entire African continent is peaceful.
