MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United Nations added its voice on Thursday to growing calls for an investigation into the killing of federal MP Amina Mohamed, a staunch critic of the incumbent President, in a suicide blast in Baladweyne on Wednesday.

In a tweet, UN mission in Somalia condemned the incident and sent condolences to the families of victims killed in the bombings while urging an investigation into the “heinous act”.

The United Nations also called for Somalia’s electoral process to be “concluded peacefully and safely”.

It comes hours after former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called for an “international probe” into the assassination of the MP, who was a member of his party, and an attack on a base inside Mogadishu airport which is home to a number of foreign diplomatic missions. He ruled out that the assault was a “terrorist incident”, though claimed by Al-Shabaab insurgents. read more
