UN Secretary-General condemns deadly suicide bombings in central Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned deadly suicide bomb attacks in the central Somalia town of Baladweyne on Monday that have left dozens of people dead.

“He extends his condolences to the families of the bereaved as well as the Government and people of Somalia. He wishes a swift recovery to the injured,” spokesman for UN Secretary-General Sephane Dujarric said in a statement on Monday.

“The Secretary-General reaffirms the commitment of the United Nations to work with regional and other international actors in supporting the people and Government of Somalia on their path toward a peaceful Somalia.”

Three suicide bomb attacks claimed by Al-Shabaab targeted an army base housing regional government offices and presidential complex in the town of Baladweyne on Monday, killing at least 25 people.
