MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – US ambassador to Somalia Larry Andre said on Friday the country is facing “two severe crises” and the international community was bolstering support for Somali authorities to overcome grim challenges ahead of them.
Speaking to Sky News, Andre said the Horn of Africa nation is grappling with insecurity and drought, but stressed that authorities made gains in a recent offensive to dislodge Al-Shabaab from rural areas in the central regions.
He added that with the help of international partners, Somalia was able to avert much-feared famine in the southern regions of the country due to a prolonged drought that has forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.
