MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United States has not invited Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi and he is visiting Washington at his initiative, its ambassador to Somalia Larry Andre said on Monday.

In an interview with Garowe Online, US ambassador to Somalia stressed that Bihi’s trip to Washington will not affect relations with Mogadishu.

Muse Bihi, President of Somaliland region of Somalia, is visiting Washington DC at his initiative. He will be met by Ms Molly Phee, our Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, the top United States diplomat for Africa,” US ambassador told Garowe Online news website.

We respect the achievements of the Somaliland region in terms of democratic governance, economic development, and security. We work on shared goals with Somaliland’s authorities just as we do with Somalia’s federal member states.”

Earlier, Somaliland Minister of Information Saleban Ali Kore told reporters in Hargeisa on Saturday that the President had received an official invitation from the United States before departing for his first visit to Washington. read more
