Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – US Africa Command said on Monday it had killed two Al-Shabaab insurgents in an airstrike conducted near the coastal town of Kismayo after US-trained Somali forces came under attack.

In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted an airstrike against Al-Shabaab terrorists after they attacked partner forces in a remote area near Libikus, Somalia July 17, 2022,” AFRICOM said in a statement.

The command’s initial assessment is that two Al-Shabaab terrorists were killed and that no civilians were injured or killed given the remote nature of where the engagement occurred.”

Somalia’s army said it had killed two militants in the village of Libikus after attacking an Al-Shabaab taxation center. Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the claims. Details on the exact casualties inflicted by the engagement have not been immediately available due to the remote nature of the area.
