MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held talks with Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday on the crisis in Ethiopia and Somalia, days after the Somali Prime Minister said he survived an “attempted coup” arranged by the President.
“President Kenyatta and I spoke today about the urgency of a cessation of hostilities to resolve the escalating conflict in Ethiopia and the need for Somali leaders to conclude elections as soon as possible and to act with restraint,” Blinken tweeted on Tuesday.
It comes days after an attempted suspension of the Premier escalated power struggle between Somalia’s most powerful leaders that has also drawn opposition and clan leaders, who are now pushing for the President to step down.
