US Senate Confirms Larry Andre to Be Ambassador to Somalia

Larry Andre

WASHINGTON (Somaliguardian) – The United States Senate on Saturday confirmed President Joe Biden’s nominee Larry Andre to be ambassador to Somalia, as the administration considers whether to redeploy hundreds of American troops withdrawn during Trump’s tenure in office to the Horn of Africa nation.

Andre is replacing Donald Yamamoto, who has been US ambassador to Somalia for the last three years.

A diplomat since 1990, Andre served as US ambassador to Djibouti and Mauritania before being nominated to a new post in Somalia.

It comes as tensions continue to simmer in Somalia over parliamentary elections widely considered as fraudulent and rigged in favor of the current administration to give the incumbent president an assailable lead in the upcoming presidential vote.
