MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Tuesday said his government was not ready to revive an old, painful history with the neighboring landlocked Ethiopia despite Addis Ababa’s insistence on implementing a port deal with the breakaway region of Somaliland.
“On our side, we have tried to exercise restraint – their troops are here, we did not tell them to leave [and] their embassy is here. We did not expel their ambassador, their planes come here, we do not stop them,” Somali Prime Minister said.
“We are not ready to revive an old painful history, and old wounds. We hope Ethiopia will retract this illegal MoU.”
The Somali Premier added that the country’s sovereignty and independence are not negotiable.
