Worshippers ask Somalia’s president to take off his shoes after entering mosque in Kenya

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud appeared in a new video circulated on social media entering a mosque in Kenya’s capital Nairobi while wearing his shoes, a move that angered worshippers.

The video shows worshippers confronting Mohamud and asking him to either leave or take off his shoes. Though the President initially attempted to ignore the demands and calm the Muslim worshippers in the mosque by saying that his “shoes do not pose harm”, he finally accepted to leave.

The move has triggered a social media backlash in Somalia, with many accusing the Somali head of state of violating the sanctity of a mosque. Mohamud and his government have yet to comment on the incident.
