MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s opposition has called on the federal government to lift ban on protests ahead of meeting with Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.
A mediation committee met with the opposition and government leaders to lower the political temperature in the capital, just a day before opposition protests scheduled to take place in Mogadishu.
A breakthrough has reportedly been reached on a number of issues including lifting ban on protests, apologizing for recent police use of weapons against demonstrators and opposition leaders’ participation in electoral talks.
A meeting has been later arranged between the PM and opposition leaders set to be held on Thursday at Decale airport inside the city’s airport.
International community representatives have been making last-ditch efforts to ease growing tensions in Mogadishu and have met with government officials.
