Police Officer Wounded in Explosion in Somalia’s Capital

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – An explosion, said to be caused by an explosive vest placed near a police station, has taken place in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu while the city is currently being gripped by election unrest.

A remote-controlled explosive device placed outside Hamarwayne Police Station went off during a busy rush hour on Tuesday, causing casualties.

Deputy Governor of Banadir region said, in a statement on Facebook, that police had been chasing a suspected man before a suicide vest was placed outside the police station and it immediately went off.

The local official added that a suspect was arrested in connection to the attack shortly after the bombing.

One police officer was wounded according to the deputy governor of Banadir region, though the exact number of casualties has not been immediately known.
