MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Adan Adde airport in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu have briefly come to a standstill after fight between immigration officers and intelligence agents broke out early on Thursday morning.
The clash was over foreign intelligence officials whom NISA (Somalia’s Intelligence Agency) wanted to enter the country without going through passport control and scrutiny by the immigration officers after landing at the airport.
Immigration officers insisted that the foreign nationals would not bypass checks, leading to a bitter fist fight with national intelligence agents, during which both groups exchanged blows, causing damage to the airport.
Passengers with Turkish Airlines described seeing two groups of men exchanging physical blows, smashing glasses and throwing metals at each other as tumult and chaos gripped the airport.
Images circulated on social media show broken glasses and debris scattered across the international airport in the Somali capital.
Several people, including immigration officers and intelligence agents wounded in the clash and no deaths have been reported.
Somali government has not immediately commented on the incident which also briefly disrupted airport services.
