Somalia’s Main Opposition Leader Meets Jubaland and Puntland Leaders in Kenya

NAIROBI (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed is due to meet Jubaland and Puntland leaders on Sunday in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi with only a few months to go until the country’s elections.

Jubaland and Puntland leaders believe that the opposition figures from Hirshabelle, Southwest and Galmudug are not determined to sternly react over the appointment of electoral commissions allegedly comprising intelligence agents and state employees, Somali MPs in Nairobi said.

The two sides are expected to attend their final Nairobi meeting in the course of which collective decisions are set to be taken on a number of new developments on Somalia’s politics.

Among key figures attending the meeting are former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, former Galmudug President Abdikarim Hussein Guled, Puntland President Saeed Deni and Jubaland leader Ahmed Madobe.

Puntland and Jubaland have yet to appoint regional electoral commissions and are carefully considering steps to take as the opposition figures vow to boycott elections if the government does not remove intelligence agents and state employees from newly formed electoral commissions.
