MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Leaders of Somalia’s Puntland and Jubaland states arrived in the capital Mogadishu on Tuesday, where they met representatives of the international community on boosting efforts toward reaching deal that leads the path to upcoming elections.
Following their arrival at Adan Adde airport in the Somali capital, the two regional leaders attended meeting that hosted representatives of Somalia’s International Partners, who listened to the arguments tabled by the two presidents.
Puntland and Jubaland Presidents Saeed Deni and Ahmed Madobe had earlier boycotted the outcome of Dhusamareb conference, a venue that brought together the federal government and three regional states.
They said the agreement signed following the conference was exclusive for the signatories and called for an inclusive arrangement to end dispute on electoral models.
US ambassador of Somalia Donald Yamamoto held a separate meeting with President Farmajo and the leaders of Hirshabelle and Southwest to inform them about the resumption of talks on upcoming elections.
Talks mediated by the US government are due to begin in Mogadishu within the next few days and it’s unclear if the new venue will produce much awaited outcome to end political impasse ahead of elections.
